All About Ginger
Here at Kyon, we believe that our customers should have insight into what they are drinking. Thus, here is some information about the history and benefits of our main ingredient, Ginger.
Ginger has a very rich history and as part of its history it was considered a luxury for over 5,000 years. In modern times it has become a lot more accessible, but at Kyon we still use the finest ginger to bring our customers a quality beverage.
First originating in southern parts of ancient China, ginger quickly spread around the world, through India, the ‘Spice Islands’, the rest of Asia, and West Africa. Europe experienced ginger for the first time in the 1st century when the ancient Romans traded with India. After the fall of the Roman Empire, ginger was forgotten for a while, until Marco Polo brought it back from his Eastern travels. Interesting fact: In the Middle Ages, the price for half a kilogram of ginger was the same as one sheep! In the 15th century, with the discovery of the New World, Ginger was brought to the Caribbean where it started to grow with ease. Today, India is the largest producer of ginger in the world.
